Twizel ist die größte Stadt im Mackenzie District auf der Südinsel von Neuseeland. Sie wurde in den 1960er Jahren speziell für die Unterbringung von Arbeitern gebaut, die am Upper Waitaki Power Scheme beteiligt waren.
Heute liegt die Stadt in der charakteristischen Senke des Bezirks, umgeben von Kanälen, Seen und weiten Ebenen und von den Südalpen überblickt. Das macht sie zu einem idealen Ausgangspunkt für Aktivitäten wie Bergsteigen, Kajakfahren, Mountainbiken, Skifahren, Reiten und Wandern.
Die Gipfel und Wanderwege des Mount Cook Nationalparks sind nur eine kurze Strecke entfernt. Fischen Sie nach Lachs und Forelle in den atemberaubend türkisblauen Gewässern der Region. Wenn Sie keinen Fang haben, besuchen Sie die Lachsfarm und kaufen Sie einen frischen oder geräucherten Fisch.
