Der Abel Tasman Nationalpark ist Neuseelands kleinster Nationalpark, aber er zählt zu den am leichtesten zugänglichen und bietet unvergleichliche wunderschöne Küstenlandschaften und Strände.
Der Park befindet sich am nördlichen Ende von Neuseelands Südinsel, nahe Motueka und Nelson. Er ist bekannt für den Abel Tasman Coast Track. Dieser lange Wanderweg, der 3 bis 5 Tage in Anspruch nimmt, schlängelt sich über Strände und Hügelrücken zwischen Marahau im Süden und Wainui im Norden.
Diese wunderschöne Küstenregion ist reich an neuseeländischer Tierwelt. Die Landzunge am Separation Point beherbergt Kolonien von Neuseeländischen Seelöwen. Kleine blaue Pinguine, Große Tümmler und Robben bewohnen das Tonga Island Marine Reserve.
