Tūpare House & Garden ist ein ehemaliges Familienhaus im Arts & Crafts/Tudor-Stil, umgeben von einem 3,6 ha großen Park in New Plymouth. Es befindet sich jetzt im Besitz des Taranaki Regional Council und wird als öffentlicher Park und Veranstaltungsort betrieben.
Tūpare ist ein erstklassiger Landschaftsgarten mit einem einzigartigen Gehöft. Sir Russell Matthews und seine Familie entwickelten das Haus und den Garten ab 1932. Die Bepflanzungen und Landschaften, die an einem Hang mit Blick auf den Waiwhakaiho-Fluss angelegt wurden, bleiben ihrem Erbe treu.
Auf den gewundenen Pfaden, die in den Hang geschnitten sind, finden Sie stattliche Bäume, laubabwerfende Ahorne, Rotbuchen und Mammutbäume. Außerdem gibt es eine beeindruckende Sammlung von Rhododendren, Azaleen und Hortensien. Sir Russell hat die Pflanzen, die Sie heute sehen, sorgfältig gepflanzt.
