Greenhaugh Gardens wurde über 40 Jahre hinweg entwickelt und umgibt ein 1874 erbautes Kolonialhaus in Palmerston North. Ausgewachsene Bäume geben dem zwei Hektar großen Grundstück seine Struktur, während Teiche und naturnahe Bepflanzungen für Abwechslung sorgen.
Auf der einen Seite des Gartens begrenzen Buchsbaumhecken die Austin- und alten Rosen, die zusammen mit Stauden und selbstaussaatenden einjährigen Pflanzen die Kulisse eines zentralen französischen Brunnens bilden. Eine mit Glyzinien, Kletterrosen und Clematis bewachsene Pergola führt durch einen Wandteppich aus bärtigen Iris. Und von dort aus wird der Gartenbesucher auf natürliche Weise von einem Ausblick zum anderen geführt.
Im Garten befinden sich auch das “Bachbett”, mediterrane Gärten, ein Gehölz und eine Bank mit leuchtenden Cannas. Überall werden Sie Schwertlilien finden. Der Garten beherbergt die Sammlung der Irwell-Schwertlilien von Ron Busch – ein Vermächtnis, das fortgeführt wird.
