Brancepeth Historic Homestead ist eine der großartigsten und wertvollsten historischen Stätten in Wairarapa. Das koloniale Gehöft und die Gärten östlich von Masterton im unteren Teil der Nordinsel befinden sich noch immer im Besitz der Familie Beetham, die die Station gegründet hat. Heute werden Führungen von der aktuellen Generation der Familie angeboten.
Brancepeth wurde 1856 gegründet und war um 1900 eine der größten Schaffarmen Neuseelands. Zu ihrer Blütezeit verfügte sie über eine Bibliothek und eine Schule und beschäftigte mehr als 300 Mitarbeiter. Das im so genannten schottischen Baronialstil errichtete Brancepeth Homestead besteht aus Totora, das vor Ort angebaut und gefräst wurde.
Die Beethams bieten eine zweistündige Gruppenführung durch das Anwesen an. Sie erhalten einen lebendigen Eindruck davon, wie das Leben der Männer, Frauen und Kinder von Brancepeth war. Anschließend erkunden Sie den Garten, in dem mehrere historische Bäume stehen, darunter eine Eiche, die aus einer Eichel gewachsen ist, die die Brüder Beetham aus England mitgebracht haben.
